Deaudrick Williams

Damn… It’s been a long year of waiting for the return of some real rap. By real, I’m not talking boom-bap. I’m talking an artist that makes the most effortless and familial sounds, that take you to places in your mind that feel like exactly like home. The artist I’m referring to is the man that we at CitrusRap has dubbed Tampa’s phoenix, Deaudrick Williams. The rapper who consistently rises from the ashes of the weak, played out sounds and gifts us with the fye that we’ve longed for. This season, Deaudrick gives us a weighty EP called ‘Gold Teeth In The White House’, that we have a feeling will stand the test of time. His track record tends to reflect that.

With a name like ‘Gold Teeth In The White House’, it’s apparent that Deaudrick came to uplight the ones in the dark, while also striking a nerve to the opposition. The title suits the sounds perfectly. As its blend of black excellence and hood luxury meet the raw and unfiltered prospectives of witnesses to the horrors and burdens that comes with living in the skin and territories that we are in. This project is short lived, but it has a track for every crucial vibe and emotion of this day and age.  Deaudrick Williams immerses himself into the truth of today’s reality, as he composes an outline of emotions within this project. With sounds, detailing the yin & yang of seeking escape through luxury, as the 20-something year old musician deals with the pains of lies and conforming, to finally witnessing himself overcome and only wish the best for his evils. Not only with the help of his instrumentals, Deaudrick calls upon a notable rising stars of the gulf coast, Nochobud.

Each of the 7 tracks layered with in sync vocals and songwriting that perfectly captures each message. So when you hear the introduction of the project, “Off White”, as it delves into the mind of a man who just wants to cope and move forward, you just get it. Die”, the pithy track follows right after. With quotable rhymes like “I be dripping when I walk, I think my b***h need goggles”… UUUGGGHHHH, HE’S GOING CRAZY, EARLY!!! “FACES”, featuring Nochobud, is one of those water flowing tracks that you gotta play with the windows rolled down in Florida on a cool Sunday afternoon. And it doesn’t take much to catch the flow of the scenes as you move forward. From there you have one of my personal favorites, “Conceited”. A fun and undeniable anthem about looking good, feeling good and paying the game even better. “Currency” trails after. A short, slow building tale of money trails with limited instrumentals. More like an interlude, but the heavy hitting delivery makes your face screw up as soon as he spits the first bar, and it will stay that way for that entire minute. Following next is “Gold Teeth In The White House”, the title track of the project, His introspective mind on speaker, over one of the smoothest and well put together instrumentals of our time. And, to end it off, Mr. WayUp, delivers “Gangsta” to the masses. One of, if not, THE most thought provoking track of the year, in ALL OF rap music released. As it it’ll make you sway and bop to the beat, the message hits just as hard. No one can hide from their truth. “But you gangsta…” As the totality of his efforts come into scene, Deaudrick begins to, as do we, feel a breezy sense of closure.

Gold Teeth In The White House’ is going to dominate our airwaves. Deaudrick Williams delivers a full out experience packed into just under 15 minutes of audio dope. Even the cover art is dope and timeless. Shout out to the Tampa photographer and growing legend, sheepishnarco. If you couldn’t tell by the essay written earlier, this project is a definite MUST LISTEN, and has earned yet another CitrusRap approved perfect score. Deeming it on our platforms, #CertifiedFresh. We don’t have to persuade you to press play on this project, because how great this is, you will never be able to escape it’s clutches. So brush up on your lyrics and buy a few peacoats in advance. Because Deaudrick Williams is about to make this a cold fall and winter. Aundrekias Gardens has another one.

Mike Finesse – Sage Mode (EP) [Review]

PRODUCER: Salbeats & Uchi
ENGINEER: Petey Pesto
COVER ARTIST: @sabrinaisabelles
STREAM: via Spotify/Apple Music/Tidal

Mike Finesse, the lyrically mythical being hailing from Staten Island on a mission to captivate rap fans, makes his debut on CitrusRap just before the Fall truly begins, Sage Mode. A full body of work that serves as the soundtrack to a manga in an alternate reality. Mike Finesse relentlessly tears apart the music game with merely eight, yet expressive and weighty tracks.

A vague presence all throughout the project, yet this album doesn’t lack in bar quality. Mike Finesse is the perfectionist of surreal rap, soul and lyricism. Vivid tales of pain turned into triumph anthems. Like a bizarre hybrid of wordsmith rapping, and a psychological thriller flick. This could REALLY be the score to something of an indie film!

For this very situation, along with productions from himself, Mike Finesse called upon the perfect composers for Sage Mode. Salbeats and Uchi. Taking turns delivering the perfect action filled, 808 ambiance to the project’s score. Each in their own style and respect to the star artist. This project is FULL of hits!

The introduction is a short, yet intense experience title track, “Sage Mode”. The latter called “Serpentz” a more distressing and melodic track about betrayal, that is as heavy and powerful as its title. Followed by our staff favorite, “Reaper Death Seal”, a brash hitting psalm. “Hidden Rain Village” is a bar filled, hard hitting anthem for the perfect flex, featuring a state favorite, Michaela Paladio. With only eight track an each track getting better as the project progresses, it’s difficult pick and pull out this pot. It’ll be best for you to do as we say and play Sage Mode in its entirety. Back to back to back to back.

Today is no day different from any other day when we tell you to keep your eyes and ears locked onto someone that we feature. Sage Mode is a poignant masterpiece by Mike Finesse. Don’t just use the links above to stream this project, be sure to share buttons it as well and gift as many people as possible with this great and emotion packed music.

niceymost – SEVEN (Album|Review)

STREAM: via Spotify/Apple Music/Tidal

niceymost

After going on a tear for months on end, releasing a new track each week, Central Florida’s own, niceymost, pulls up to the finish line with a jam packed project for the fans, as part of his new year’s resolution. SEVEN is a collection of his latest and greatest drops from the past year, that deliver the same feeling as a musical self help book for hustlers and creatives alike. Meaning it resonates nothing short of power inducing bars that makes the listener feel as if they are the coolest individual alive.

With production and rhythms that forces your body into tribal, head bobbing movements. Using both bars and a refreshing beat selection to grab ahold of our ears. This will surely leave audio dope-heads fiening. Two of the standouts being “5 Star” a more lyrically menacing track. Preceded by the self-righteous anthem, “Mr. Untouchable”. When these two tracks are played, magic is the only outcome.

With SEVEN, niceymost proves that even his loosies have the word “Banger” stamped onto them. This 19 minute extended play holds up well. Keeping us at CitrusRap on the lookout for more audio dope by the young rapper. It seems there will be much more coming from one man army, niceymost, in the near future, as this is just the second wave of his genius plan. For now, enjoy this album while you’re on your money making mission.

Nocturnal Dez – Lets Get Active (EP|Review)

STREAM: via Spotify/Apple Music/Tidal

Nocturnal Dez

With last years entry reaching over half a million downloads to accompany a million views. South Florida representor, Nocturnal Dez returns to CitrusRap during the third quarter to unleash another musical installment into his critically acclaimed discography, Lets Get Active.

No features whatsoever, Dez continues to show fire in his eyes and a snarl in his growl as he proves why his numbers NEVER lie. A seven track itinerary of pure gas was delivered by the South Florida phenom. Mostly produced by frequent collaborators Aston Marton. The project also features beats from Eem Triplin and Corey James.

Tracks like “No Sleep” shows us versatility with his melodic vocal projections and bashing rhymes. While the Aston Marton produced “Action” gives a familiar rhythmic and hypnotic flow, it passes all tests of being a banger once you realize that you’ve been head banging the entire four and a half minutes.

It’s safe to say that Nocturnal Dez is back for his annual run on the charts as he’s grown accustom to doing. With bodies of work as appealing as this one, the entire state of Florida is likely to help catapult him back into the front lines of stardom. Give the EP a listen and prepare to put it on repeat.

Doechii – she/her/black b*tch (Album|Review)

STREAM: via Spotify/Apple Music/Tidal

Tampa royalty and Top Dawg Entertainment’s first female rapper, Doechii, releases her latest EP she / her / black b*tch. Compacted with 5 songs, Doechii does nothing but tease us with captivating verses, complimenting features with production that is pure ear candy. It’s a quickie nonetheless, something to hold us over till we get what she really has in-store. With animated and rambunctious lyricism, raps that are unhinged, beats that are quirky and diverse, Doechii is showing she has such a deep musical pallet.

Doechii

On “Swamp Princess” she taps in with Rico Nasty, giving us a collaboration that we didn’t know we desperately needed. Rico’s crazed sound pairs so well with Doechii’s off-the-wall style. They’re both at their best here. On “Bitch I’m Nice”, released in July, she delivers a supersonic dance record. On “Bitches Be”, there’s bit of a SZA influence as if it should’ve been featured on her debut album CTRL. On “This Bitch Matters”, things take turn where she’s more reflective and sensitive. Lastly you have “Persuasive (Remix” with SZA, a feel good record where the TDE label-mate enhances the song taking it to another level.

As said in her press material about her debut EP:

“Many times I’ve been referred to as a “bitch” as a way to gaslight me out of certain spaces, something I think many people can relate to in one way or another,” says Doechii. “Lots of people will call you various names for doing something differently. “So I decided to take ownership of the ‘black bitch’ and title my EP she/ her/ black b*tch and reclaim that motherf***ing power,” Doechii continues.” So if you’ve ever been put down for being
yourself, just remember you’re powerful and unapologetic- these songs are for you.”

Ultimately, it’s exciting to see where the Tampa native will take things next with her unprecedented and genre-bending sound. You can listen to her major label debut debut EP above and while you’re at it, check out

Deleteeglitch – Whispers From The Wayside (Album|Review)

PRODUCER: Lonesworld
ART DIRECTION: Big Flowers
PURCHASE: via Bandcamp
FEATURING: S!lence, Roman, Lungs, Skully Ciprani, Nine Livs, Big Flowers & Breezy Montclair

Deleteeglitch

Tampa based artist, Deleteeglitch, a lyrically mythical being that’s on a mission to captivate rap fans, makes his debut to CitrusRap just before Spring truly begins. Dropping off Whispers From The Wayside, a full body of work that acts as a teaser to what feels like something much bigger in the near future. Deleteeglitch relentlessly tears apart the music game with merely nine, yet expressive and weighty tracks.

A vague presence all throughout the project, yet this album doesn’t lack in bar and production quality. Deleteeglitch is the perfectionist of surreal rap and soul grabbing lyricism. Vivid tales of pain turned into triumph anthems. Like a bizarre hybrid of wordsmith rapping, and a psychological thriller flick. This could REALLY be the score to something of an indie film!

For this very situation, Deleteeglitch called upon the perfect composers for Whispers From The Wayside. Producer, Lonesworld, giving that dark, but jazzy ambiance to the project, each in their own style and respect to the star artist. The duo is reminiscent to the timeless work of greats like MF DOOM and Madlib. This album is FULL of gems that NEED to be heard!

The introduction is an intense, nonstop onslaught of bars disguised as a weed induced poem, titled “Burnie Madoff Wax”. The latter called “THEHEADBONECONNECTEDTOTHENECK”, a distressing instrumental that forces Deleteeglitch and the featured artist, S!lence, to lyrically jab their way out of Lonesworld’s rhythmic crosshairs. Soon followed by “That Feely Feeling That Feels Feely” featuring Roman. A brash hitting psalm, that oozes self reliance in the lyrics. But if we were forced to choose a staff pick, it would have to be “GOINOVERTHESKYWAYBLINDFOLDEDAT140FUCKITWHYNOT”. A free flowing, double and triple entendre filled, hard hitting anthem for the perfect flex. It sounds like something that Ghostface and Raekwon would play before they hit the block in Staten Island. The definitive soundtrack for real emcees.

With only 9 tracks, each track is as hard as the last, it’s nearly impossible pick and pull out this pot. It’ll be best for you to do as we say and play Whispers From The Wayside in it’s entirety. Back to back to back to back.

Today is no day different from any other day when we tell you to keep your eyes and ears locked onto someone that we feature. Whispers From The Wayside is a poignant masterpiece by Deleteeglitch.
