Interview: Florida’s Natural with Kie Money

Florida's Natural

As many local fans are aware, Florida has one of the most overlooked Hip Hop circuits, not only in the region, but the entire country. While it can be tough for local creatives to break out from the scene, Citrus Rap makes strides to continue to uplift the Floridians who are on their way up. Said creatives, seen all over CitrusRap, can be found making moves statewide— some even venturing out of state. Still there are several unanswered questions for these rising stars, so we went ahead and formulated a questionnaire to clear the air. This is a new interview series we call “Florida’s Natural,” so that fans can gain insight on the individuals who we believe have the juice.

If you knew me since middle school, you’d call me Kiwi, because I always used to have kiwi and strawberry-kiwi Capri-Sun. If you know me from the last several years, you would call me Money or Kie Money.

Where do you reside; what’s your hometown?

Right now I reside in Coral Springs but just left out of Margate. I was in [Coconut] Creek at one point. My home is Broward County.

Why do you rap?

Honestly, I started for the fun of it. When I was 16, I was locked up. My cousin was rapping at the time, so I started when I was in there and would rap to him over the phone. When I grew up, I knew I wanted to do it seriously. Now, I do it for the money and to provide for my family.

Who do you look up to?

Honestly, I look up to no one. I just have my own path and do what I do. I know there are people out there that have influenced me, but I don’t necessarily look up to them. Music-wise, Lil’ Wayne is my favorite artist of all time.

How old are you now and how old were you when you first released your music on the internet?

I’m 25-years-old. My first shit was when I was 17; I was in this group called the Posta Boyz.

What 3 albums of 3 different genres shaped you as an artist?

Lil’ Wayne – The Carter

Michael Jackson – Thriller

The Notorious B.I.G. – Ready to Die

What do you bring to the live stage setting that captivates crowds?

Basically, I’ve hosted a lot of shit before, so I have a good stage presence. I through a lot of fuckin’ water. I tell the left side of the crowd to get turnt, I tell the right. I just do a bunch of turn-ups.

How do you portray your personality in your music?

What I rap about is what I do. I portray myself as a street rapper because I’m a street dude first. When you hear that “Aye!” come in, you know I’m ’bout to come through with some shit!

Do you care about social media?

At this point, you have to. As far as caring about what people say, I don’t pay attention. But as far as the fans on social media reaching out, I definitely care.

Is it ever difficult to express yourself?

Never. The music definitely helps, but I tell it how it is wherever I go, not just in the music. If I feel a certain way, I’ma let you know.

What song describes your current mood?

Shit, I’d say my song with Curren$y called “Ain’t No Blowing My High.”

When can people expect your next big project?

I’m in the works with Nuez. He’s mixing down this track with Zaytoven. We’ll probably drop that in a week or two. I’m dropping my EP after YOTS, probably in late October. It’ll be called Street Stunna.

Anything else to add?

Look out for my brother Robb Bank$’ mothafuckin’ album YOTS October 2nd. That shit’s gonna be a classic. Shoutout to Pouya, Fat Nick, Lano, the whole SS team.

Robb Bank$ – Throw It Up

PRODUCER: Nuez
UPCOMING PROJECT: Year of the Savage
RELEASE DATE: October 2

Yeah, it’s Friday night. Grab the aux cable and deal with it! Trust…

It’s safe to say Robb Bank$ might be happy. He just went to Twitter to announce that his long-awaited debut album Year Of The Savage will finally be released on October 2nd. As if the artwork (pictured above) leak isn’t already icing on the cake, Phone impulsively released a Nuez-produced track entitled “Throw It Up.” Opening the freestyle pleading, “Brandon, don’t be mad, I’m sorry,” as the album is turned in and management likely wouldn’t approve of the release on a Friday night—but does Robb give a damn? Absolutely never. Stay tuned for further updates on the Broward County boy and put “Throw It Up” on repeat this Labor Day weekend and beyond.

Fat Nick – How I Look

by .

DIRECTOR: Max Beck

Fat Nick is a young icon in the South Florida rap circuit. With his breakout project Fat Camp fortuitously yet constantly cycling around the net (particularly the Twittersphere) the Miami rapper remains consistent with his eccentric releases, now bringing Max Beck-directed visuals for his playfully narcissistic cut “How I Look” to light. The video features Nick and fellow Buffet Boys members Pouya and Germ juggin’ out with the homie Sir Michael Rocks.

Stand-out bar: “Different colored Xans / got ’em lookin’ like some Runts.”

Keshkapesh. Kesh Dolla Cashy. C – A Dolla. Cashy Kesh. Triple Dolla.

Where do you reside; what’s your hometown?

In the trenches of Perrine, Florida—south of Miami-Dade.

Why do you rap?

To be real with you, the conspiracy and democracy allows me to create an art to inspire.

Who do you look up to?

Growing up I always looked up to “Pimpin’ Snooky.”

How old are you now and how old were you when you first released your music on the internet?

I’m 26 years of age & my first project released on the internet was in 2009: the Self Serve mixtape.

What 3 albums shaped you as an artist?

Most Known Unknown (Three 6 Mafia), 400 Degreez (Juvenile), All Eyez On Me (2Pac).

What do you bring to the live stage setting that captivates crowds?

My Style! My Stage Presence & MY Art.

How do you portray your personality in your music?

I portray my personality in my music from my normal everyday persona or natural character.  Really, it’s just how I’m feeling that particular day whenever I’m recording and the vibe comes to life in the songs. I live the vintage lifestyle. I stay high. I’m chilled the fuck out. Music is an expression of how I’m feeling and whatever I’m going through.

Do you care about social media?

Negative. I do what I want across all my social platforms. It’s just another way to express myself and spread my music around the globe. I performed in Europe in April. Headlined Webster Hall. Last month was in LA at Echoplex—sold out show. Social media helps get my music to the masses, but I never worry about social media or take it too serious. I like living in “real life.”

Is it ever difficult to express yourself?

No. I stay fly in my vintage gear and created a movement: Vintage Mob. We’re worldwide.

What song describes your current mood?

I Feel Like A Mother Fuckin “Pimp Today!”

When can people expect your next big project?

We just dropped a project with Mishka Records as a one-off release in June called Holographic Art.  It’s an EP, produced entirely by Purp Dogg—who I’ve worked with in the past on my Platinum Plus tape.

Anything else to add?

Be on the look out for more shows and proper visuals from the Holographic Art EP.  I’m going to be down in Atlanta performing at A3C.  I’m also working on my Vintage Mob brand and will continue putting on for South Florida.

$uicideboy$ & Pouya – South Side Suicide [EP]

You know it’s lit when it’s a Tuesday night, the club is not going up and it’s a dead night at the crib, Pouya drops a tweet with the link to a new EP, and the first voice you hear on it is Future’s. It is just a sample of “Sh!t,” but still—it’s lit. Previously teased with the EP’s namesake track in June, G*59 Records‘ $uicideBoy$ and Miami’s very own Pouya have finally arrived with $outh $ide $uicide. For fans of experimental, dark, trill rap, this 5-track EP from the New Orleans duo and Pouya will surely captivate. It seems like ever since South Side Slugs and Fat Camp dropped, Pouya and the squad have been some very busy guys. Be sure to catch them live in a city near you.

Eddy Braveaux – YKM (ft. Black Kray)

ENGINEERED BY: Eddy Braveaux & Lemieux
ARTWORK BY: Trapghanistan

Duval County’s very own Eddy Braveaux is a man of many talents as a producer and rapper. Gearing up to release his upcoming debut project, currently with a disclosed title, the 22-year-old Apply Pressure Int’l affiliate graces Citrus Rap, and most importantly the fans, with a new single called “YKM”: an aggressive banger featuring Virginia’s infamous man of many aliases, Black Kray AKA SICKBOYRARI. Short for “Yuon Know Me,” as repetitively chanted in the catchy chorus, the record is an anthem for people agitated with preconceived judgement and accusations. Those unfamiliar with Mr. Aural Aficionadeaux can look no further than his recent “Florida’s Natural” interview to gain more insight on the young rap phenom. As for the new single, Eddy divulges the origin below in an exclusive quote obtained by Citrus Rap:

I sat on the beat for months, until one day I found myself in the studio listening to it—and it touched a certain anger in my heart that spurred the oncoming of a lot of expression that I had bottled up somewhere deep inside of me; a lot of rage. I ended up writing and recording the whole song that same night, leaving 8 bars open for a feature that I heard in my head while writing to the beat. I reached out to DMV artist who’s work I admire, Goth Money’s own Black Kray. In no more than a week, Kray had the joint done, sent it to me, and it was truly the last piece of the puzzle. Dude had my whole squad “pulling up” tryna “flexikobe.” Unfortunately, the email of which the beat resided in seems to be missing, so there’s no telling who produced the track. The track will find itself on my upcoming project which I cannot reveal the title of just yet.
