Rolling Loud Roll Call: Awful Records

by .

Over the course of the past few years, a refined-yet-twisted resurgence of the cosmic Hip Hop movement that existed in the 90’s during Outkast’s come-up has been brought to the forefront again, mostly thanks to Atlanta. While there was Dungeon Family primarily taking the movement by storm back then, today’s instance seems to be scattered with various interconnected crews, each respectively making noise in the rap game. One of those notorious crews is the eccentric group of creatives known as Awful Records. Lead by Father, a multi-talented artist known for his club hit, “Look At Wrist” featuring iLoveMakonnen & Key!, the roster of Awful Records is 15 members deep -all of whom have their own unique style but still seem on the same sonic wavelength as each other. With extensive coverage on multiple prominent publications, their personalities shine, and it makes sense why this group of young artists are demanding the attention of the masses. While Father remains busy on tour and working on his upcoming Who’s Gonna Get F*cked First album, he will be missing in action as the majority of the crew (which consists of Richposlim, Slug Christ, Lord Narf, Playboi Carti, Ethereal, Archibald Slim, Pyramid Quince, Luidiamonds, and GAHM) will be hitting the stage at Rolling Loud Festival in Miami on Saturday, February 28th.

Rolling Loud Roll Call: Xavier Wulf

by .

While Miami producer Spaceghostpurrp’s Raider Klan collective had a short-lived stint, there was no doubt that those members had talent and potential spooling up all along. As for the group’s disbandment, one of the first members to leave was Memphis rapper Ethelwulf, who now goes by the name Xavier Wulf. After creative differences and (now squashed) beef, the 23-year-old decided he needed to expand his musical palate and branch out. Blood Shore Season 2 was the result: a mixtape with an array of soundscapes and catchy anthems supported by illustrious visuals that had fans asking for more. And just as he did with his announcement of departure from his old crew, he took to twitter at the top of the year to inform those fans that his project Tundra Boy Season One is coming soon. While that remains in the works, Xavier Wulf will be reuniting with some of his old Raiders in Miami as he performs Saturday, February 28th at Rolling Loud Festival.

Rolling Loud Roll Call: Chris Travis

by .

Chris Travis is a 21-year-old rapper hailing from the home of rap icons like Three Six Mafia. While those are big shoes to fill, Travis has nothing but time and potential. Early on in his career, the Memphis rapper joined forces with SGP and Raider Klan, ultimately parting ways like many of his comrades. In the process, he befriended South Florida buzzing MC and frequent collaborator Robb Bank$. Together, they have put out bangers like the Nuri-produced “Solid.” “While his first talked about mixtape was called Codeine & Pizza, don’t get it twisted. Chris promotes good health through his Water Boyz movement, which derives from the importance of drinking water. Earlier this week, Chris Travis released his newest project, Live From The East. Undoubtedly, the western Tennessee native will be performing records off of that this Saturday at Rolling Loud Festival on February 28th.

Rolling Loud Roll Call: Kembe X

by .

Kembe X is as Chicago as it gets. The 21-year-old rap phenom once said, “all of my memories are at the crib in South Holland and my grandmother’s crib on the Westside.” This midwesterner has been called a rap prodigy, as his entrance into the game came at an early age of 17. Attention from major outlets including Scion A/V, of whom released his debut Kembe X EP, might be due to the fact that he isn’t doing the typical Chicago rap. His music strays away from the aggressive drill music that some of the others around him are creating. Kembe takes a smoother, melodic, and groove-oriented approach, and it certainly has done wonders for him. Still brewing buzz from his EP, Kembe X, along with frequent collaborator Alex Wiley, takes his talents to Miami for Rolling Loud Festival on Saturday February 28th.

Rolling Loud Roll Call: SDotBraddy

by .

Miami’s SDotBraddy is a name not to forget, and certainly one not to mispronounce (not pronounced Brady, like the quarterback). As a member of the notorious C9 collective, he’s certainly in good company with fellow rappers Denzel Curry, JK The Reaper, Mike Dece, Yoshi Thompkins, producers Ronny J, Poshtronaut, Rem, and of course their manager Mark Maturah who keeps everything and everyone organized. While Miami is often known for turn-up, booty-shaking, trap music, Braddy certainly brings that same energy and aggression, however, his lyrical content is far more developed with substance. It is the intentions of the rapper that separate him from the more ignorant side of the genre, as he tells Miami New Times, “I’m not doing this for attention. I’m doing it mostly for people that are in my situation that have gone through what I’ve gone through”. With his album Private Sessions on its way, fans can tune into his Denzel Curry-assisted single, entitled “Darius”, to better familiarize themselves with the Miami rapper, who will be gracing the stage at Rolling Loud Festival in Wynwood tomorrow.

Rolling Loud Roll Call: Lamb$

by .

If you could not already tell by his image, the Cincinnati rapping newcomer known as Lamb$ is a big fan of No Limit, sporting the gold grill, camo gear, and that iconic album artwork style as seen on projects as early as his Lamb$ 3000 mixtape. This major influence can be attested for in songs like “Percy”, where he proclaims Master P’s legendary status. The record had MishkaNYC claiming, “It was a 2014 interpretation of ‘Mr. Ice Cream Man.'” However, despite the nostalgia, the rapper holds his own unique style, and showcases is well on songs like “Digi Scale”, of which the remix recruited noteworthy names like Key!, Reese, and Tazo. Within the past year, the Madisonville native released a buzzworthy EP, entitled Fukk Karmagarnering nearly 50,000 plays off the strength of mainly himself, and a memorable A$AP Ant feature on the song “Worried.” While it is clear through his social media account handles, Lamb$ does not get much sleep, and despite that, it has paid off. Catch Lamb$ wide-awake as he performs live at Rolling Loud Festival tomorrow in Miami.

Rolling Loud Roll Call: Shy Glizzy

by .

Shy Glizzy is a DMV rapper, hailing from the southeast D.C. area, specifically 37th street as he has been known to shoutout in his songs. From WorldstarHipHop fame early on in his career, Glizzy has developed a substantial cult following, and has even rounded up fellow creatives he believes in to form his own Glizzy Gang, of which everyone sports the last name Glizzy (to a Ramones or A$AP effect). His knack for simplistic-yet-catchy club records has matched well with his powerhouse production from the likes of Zaytoven, Metro Boomin, Young Chop, and Cardo. His Law mixtape series has recruited rap’s most talked about acts like A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz (on his “Awwsome” remix), Migos, Bobby Shmurda, and Yo Gotti. Shy Glizzy is not shy to the spotlight, on and off the stage. The spotlight will certainly be on the DMV rapper this Saturday in Miami Rolling Loud Festival.
