Interview: Florida’s Natural with The Pyrvmids

As many local fans are aware, Florida has one of the most overlooked Hip Hop circuits, not only in the region, but the entire country. While it can be tough for local creatives to break out from the scene, Citrus Rap makes strides to continue to uplift the Floridians who are on their way up. Said creatives, seen all over CitrusRap, can be found making moves statewide— some even venturing out of state. Still there are several unanswered questions for these rising stars, so we went ahead and formulated a questionnaire to clear the air. This is a new interview series we call “Florida’s Natural,” so that fans can gain insight on the individuals who we believe have the juice.

List your current Alias(es):

I’m known as The Pyrvmids musically, but the people that hang with me just call me by my name, Brandon. I wouldn’t mind either one.

Where do you reside; what’s your hometown?

My home city is Miami. I reside here. I’ve lived in almost every region in Miami. I identify with it all.

Why do you make beats?

I produce because its always been a medium for me to express myself, through the drums, the samples, synthesizers. All of those sounds convey more emotion to me then actually writing words.

Who do you look up to?

Deion Sanders,  Farrakhan, UnkleLuc

How old are you now and how old were you when you first released your music on the internet?

Right now I’m 23, and I first released my music online at 17 via MySpace (very bad music at that). I was in my college dorm room rapping on a webcam with no shirt on and I posted the video on my page. I hope no one finds that (lol).

What 3 albums of 3 different genres shaped you as an artist?

Confessions – Usher (R&B).

Graduation – Kanye West. I actually have this album cover art tattooed on my right forearm.

Nevermind – Nirvana.

What do you consistently bring into your production that captivates ears?

Texture, and pure emotion. I make sure I stamp each of my productions even when I’m collaborating. I try to add emotion and texture—that’s my signature.

How do you portray your personality in your music?

Every beat/song is different with me. I make every beat off of a thought or emotion. They are always different but will always represent my personality at the time. You can hear my personality in my production or writing style.

Do you care about social media?

Not really. I use it to talk to my supporters, my people. I don’t get caught up in what the media feeds the masses. I try to get online and combat that and give my people real natural thoughts and ideas to help them progress through the daily bullshit life throws at us each day.

Is it ever difficult to express yourself?

Never, and I thank God for that. I watch so many people react like cranky infants throughout life because they don’t know how to express themselves properly and convey the proper emotions. They get angry and upset and that’s all they know how to give off. I’m an artist, it’s my job to help people express themselves or at least relate to my expression.

What song describes your current mood?

Right now its “Hope” – Prez P (Prod. The Pyrvmids) ….that song is off The Preztige project that we just dropped, but it means so much to me because it is perfect for what’s going on in the world right now. My current mood is progressive and proactive. I’m ready for change, even if I HAVE to be that change.

When can people expect your next big release/placement?

I have no idea. I took about a half a year off to focus on real life and separate myself from the music scene. I produced while I was on my break but I have no idea where those tracks will go. I’ve found more peace in purely creating music and just letting the people pick it up and make it a smash. All I can do is focus on making the best music I can, and I’m gonna keep it that way.

Thank you guys so much for this, I really appreciate the love. I see you guys grinding trying to push the culture. You have my full support—let’s make history.
