Deaudrick Williams – To Have & To Hold

STREAM: via Spotify/Apple Music

The melodically mythical being that’s on a mission to captivate all of Florida has appeared once more before the winter’s end. The Tampa native makes his CitrusRap debut, by dropping off To Have & To Hold, a full body of work that acts as a teaser to what feels like something even bigger in the near future. Deaudrick Williams relentlessly tears apart the music game with merely eighty (plus two fye interludes), yet expressive and weighty tracks. Reminiscent of early projects of K Dot.

A vague presence all throughout the project, due to the message/theme behind the project. Deaudrick Williams is an alchemist of surreal rap and soul. To Have & To Hold is like “Jacob’s Ladder” put to rhyme and blues. Vivid tales of love lost, turmoil, confusion and triumph. Like a sacred hybrid of rap, poems, head bobbing, soul jerking beats and a dramatic flick. This could REALLY be the score to the next great black cinema!

For this very situation,  called upon the perfect composers for To Have & To Hold. Producers giving off, both, that dark and light, dreamlike ambiance to the project, each in their own style and respect to the star artist.

The introduction is a short, yet intense experience, titled “Plenty Faced God”. The latter called “PBP” a motivating track that is as heavy and powerful as it’s title. “Collard Greens” is a brash hitting, informative psalm. “Rolling Stone” is rhythmic, mourning track of past loves and temptations. With only ten tracks and all are as hard as the last, it’s nearly impossible pick and pull out this pot. It’ll be best for you to do as we say and play To Have & To Hold in it’s entirety. Back to back to back to back.

Today is no day different from any other day when we tell you to keep your eyes and ears locked onto someone that we feature. To Have & To Hold is a poignant masterpiece by Deaudrick Williams. Don’t just use the links above to stream this project, be sure to share buttons it as well and gift as many people as possible with this great and emotion packed music.

Kevin Nova – Fuck Love (Prod. Ramiche Music)

PRODUCER: Ramiche Music
STREAM: via Spotify/Apple Music

South Florida has been the Mecca for new found rap sensations and it looks it’s not changing anytime soon, as Kevin Nova blesses us with a self reflective and relatable heat wave called “Fuck Love”. His CitrusRap debut, Over a Ramiche Music instrumental, Kevin Nova masterfully spits a psalm of a tantalizing and spiritually intruding feeling of both, love and lost. For anyone who’s experienced it, “Fuck Love” embodies the true face heartbreak. The fear of abandonment, the denial of hope and the inevitable, addictive lust for more time with said lover. The young emcee has given us a true piece of art with this joint. So it won’t be too much to say, you’re going to want to add this to your personal playlist and put this on repeat.

WARNING: you may get transported into “The Feels” when you press play.

Too Trill DM – Thinking Out Loud (Album)

Miami’s Too Trill DM pulls up to the finish line with a jam packed project for the fans. Thinking Out Loud is a product that delivers the same feeling as a self help book for hustlers. Meaning it resonates nothing short of power inducing bars that makes the listener feel as if they are the baddest individual alive, with production and rhythms that forces your head to bob and your face to scrunch up.

The Miami rapper continues to give us something to stir up this year’s lyrical debate, adding fuel to the fire that he ignited over the past few months and throwing a musical tantrum on the throne that he’s claimed all in the same breathe.

The introduction track to is a self reflective story of his family’s life, and all of the trials and tribulations that follow. A strong, drum filled beat that Too Trill DM manipulates flawlessly with his speed bag of rhymes, heartfelt stories and throwing a hay-maker or two ever so often. Never missing a punch. Reminiscent of the generations greatest fighter, in which the track is obviously themed after.

Thinking Out Loud is a treasure chest full of gems. This man and his army in Miami is a force to be reckoned with and should never be taken lightly. Doing it in the most organic and humble way as possible. Not only does this seem like it’s sport to him, but it’s child’s play in some way. Convincing me that he has something dynamic hidden up his sleeve and this is barely the tip of the asteroid. I just pray that the world is ready for the turn up before time runs out.

A 7 track extravaganza. This will surely leave audio dope-heads fiening. Hopefully there will be much more coming from Too Trill DM in the near future. For now, enjoy this album while you’re on your money making mission.

Citrus Rap Presents: Best of 2019 (Staff Picks)

2019 was yet another monumental year for Florida and its respective rap sector. As new faces arrived and existing talent continued to excel, it came at no surprise to see a headline at the end of the year read: “Is Florida The New Atlanta?”

Though it was flattering, the answer to that question is simply, no. Florida has its own unique identity, especially when it comes to music. Any comparison made to the 305, 954, 561, 407, 813, or 904, respectively, is a setup for a poor argument. It’s safe to say that, overall, the sunshine state is overlooked and labeled incorrectly very often. The fact of the matter is that there is such a wide range of rap being offered, from the Panhandle to Miami, that no box could ever be put on Florida—and that is exactly the dynamic that separates it from the other regions.

With all of that taken into consideration, the CitrusRap staff has compiled the best rap to come out of Florida this year. It was not easy, but certainly necessary in order to properly highlight our choices for Florida’s impressive output in 2019. When viewing, keep in mind that this is compiled of our staff’s opinions, so the last is certainly not least. We hope you enjoyed 2019 as much as we did. Be sure to keep supporting Florida rap in 2020 and beyond!

Rich Iyala – Loaded (ft. Ziggy) [Video]

by .

DIRECTOR: Fat$
PRODUCER: Krikit Boi
STREAM: via Spotify/Apple Music

Back like he never left. After years of a video hiatus, the Frisco myth, Rich Iyala (fka sayknowledge), is back on CitrusRap with his signature funk. The first single from OverEverything’s upcoming project, APT. 29, “Loaded” is an ode to affection, set to a groovy, two-stepping ballad, provided by Krikit Boi. Director, Fat$, captures the lighthearted and joyful exchange through his visionary eye.

Rich Iyala uses this moment to boast an enthralling and poetic verse about the flame that’s been burning his mind. Something that would be played at an annual Player’s Ball. With Ziggy assisting with the soulful and forcefully catchy hook, and a masterful verse to match, “Loaded” is definitely the fire in the winter that we needed.

It feels great knowing that in the year 2020, Hip-Hop is in great hands with Rich Iyala and his OverEverything family.
