Irie Reyna – The Message

PRODUCER: Bicks Boogie

One of South Florida’s next queen’s has emerged with little to no warning and it’s everything that we hoped for. Irie Reyna creates an airy, seductive psalm full of animus and tenderness for the a world in dire need of affection with “The Message”. A Bicks Boogie produced, neo soul like vibe that’s reminiscent of Erykah Badu and Jill Scott playing over loud speakers on Sunday mornings. Irie Reyna gives her own account of the inspiration behind her debut track, “The Message”:

I’ve struggled for a while trying to find my sound, a lot of it has to do with me still identifying myself & the fact that I overthink everything. One night I was just listening to beats & I had a pull toward this track. It all came from my experiences with love in it’s many forms. I like to think that whether you’re my own mother or someone I just met two minutes ago, I’m going to treat you with the same respect so it’s only right I demand it back. People get so caught up in nailing the impression that sometimes the imprint they leave on someone is no where near who they are because they were trying so hard to be impressive. I’m just so over the hype of vanity & I want to help people be open to how they feel instead of cowering out of the situation which seems to be so popular in our culture now. I want females to be able to listen to my music and say, “Wow that’s everything I wanted to tell that boy but never could cough up in the moment”. I want guys to realize that it aint a man’s world anymore. This is the new age and no matter what it is I want to accomplish, no boy is going to stop me from chasing my dreams. I want the empowerment to go both ways though, I want guys to be empowered to be a better man so they can handle a real woman. All in all it’s just my way of showing, you’re either gonna love me or leave me alone.
