Interview: Florida’s Natural with Lil Champ FWAY

Lil Champ FWAY

As many local fans are aware, Florida has one of the most overlooked Hip Hop circuits, not only in the region, but the entire country. While it can be tough for local creatives to break out from the scene, Citrus Rap makes strides to continue to uplift the Floridians who are on their way up. Said creatives, seen all over CitrusRap, can be found making moves statewide— some even venturing out of state. Still there are several unanswered questions for these rising stars, so we went ahead and formulated a questionnaire to clear the air. This is a new interview series we call “Florida’s Natural,” so that fans can gain insight on the individuals who we believe have the juice.

List your current Alias(es):

Where do you reside; what’s your hometown?

Last year it was LA and Sacramento. This year, I started the year off in ATL. Now, I’m in Denver. My Hometown Is Miami, FL—Carol City, to be exact

Why do you rap?

Because I love music, and the more I record, I grow to love music and appreciate everything about it. Music is me; I breathe music.

Who do you look up to?

I look up to my momma and grandma…music-wise, I’m inspired by Lil Wayne, Nas, 2pac, Dipset, and Gucci Mane. I watch and learn from those guys.

How old are you now and how old were you when you first released your music on the internet?

28 now. I was 20 when I released my first song on the net.

What 3 albums of 3 different genres shaped you as an artist?

Ginuwine’s The Bachelor, Mase’s Harlem World, and Kenny G’s Greatest Hits.

What do you bring to the live stage setting that captivates crowds?

My energy and dance moves is crazy! I always have the FWAY Boyz wit me (Harvey G FWAY and V Dot Loco). We feed off of each other’s energy and we just go crazy. We like to entertain. We like that spotlight.

I’m different. I never come wit the same sound or emotions. When  listening to me, you know, “OK, this nigga dont give a fuck,” on some tracks, and on some others, “he’s spitting real shit; droppin’ jewels”—so when listening to me, you know it’s no extra shit.

Yeah and No. Yeah, because I need it for my music. No, ’cause sometimes it’s a bunch of BS.

Sometimes; ’cause I’m outspoken and brutally honest.
