Pouya: The Golden Flow Coming From Florida

WRITTEN BY: Dewayne Gage

I just wanted to take time to acknowledge that the South Florida sound is by far not extinct, but has been revamped thanks to Miami native, Pouya.

It is his flow that catches listener’s ears over the magical production of Mikey The Magician and Big Los that makes Pouya the latest heat coming out of Miami, Florida. I would say a lot of credit towards the sound goes to the production, but even more to Pouya’s heavily influenced 90’s rap group, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony’s midwest style and Pouya’s South influence gives us a distinct sound that is perfect for rap right now — invigorating to say the least.

I can only describe Pouya’s flow in one word, golden. On songs such as “Talk,” Pouya knows exactly how to ride a smooth beat using a heavily influence Krayzie Bone flow with his Miami origins to create a flow and a sound that is his owns.

Pouya along with his friends and also frequent collaborators, Fat Nick & Germ, carry a new refreshing sound that is also drill, but different from what emerges from Chicago’s drill scene. The horns throughout songs like “The Life Aquatic” will make many say that the sound is nothing like Chicago drill music, but when you hear tracks like “Drop Em Off,” the drill influence pours out. On Pouya’s new mixtape South Side Slugs, you get a confident Pouya who knows his lane and produces smooth track after track.
