Interview: GemTalk with Alexis Nicole

GEM TALK

Working in fashion might just be another career option to some people but in Alexis case it is her life (literally). Today on GemTalk, Miami’s very own fashion stylist/image consultant Alexis Ether decided to give us a little insight of her world. Captivating, yet, daring were the first words I described Alexis Nicole when I met her Thursday June 16th. From pairing up vintage pieces with Dior boots to creating daily looks with her signature golds and lastly slaying everything she wears, Alexis Nicole is clearly someone you’ll want to keep your eye on. Read below how Alexis & I talked about her inspirations, future goals & many more.

DSC_0959Who is Alexis Nicole?

Twenty-five, Approachable, yet unapologetic.

When you first started as a stylist, what were you expecting from it? Moreover, did it meet your expectations?

I started young and would take any job or volunteer for any fashion show or event opportunity at my institute at the time and I slowly networked my way into taking on a bunch of internships. I knew it was not going to be easy, but I did not know how many different outlooks and responsibilities it was to function as a stylist. My expectations to this day are extremely high; I continue to push myself to deliver my visuals in such an innovative way I WANT TO PICK YOUR BRAIN. I want the light bulb to click or flash on and say, FUCK YEAH THAT’S DOPE!

DSC_0746bYour fashion sense is very captivating and daring (which I seriously love by the way). What is your go-to outfit for a night out in Miami?

A 3-piece fit or suit situation. Crop, bottom, jacket. A play on monochrome or print. With some form of glam shoe or kick. Always dress in 3’s and pay attention to details!

When did you fall in love with fashion?

YOUNG! SO SO YOUNG! It was something I knew I could always fall back on. I may not have had it all but I knew I could dress better than they could. Dance and the arts really helped me though with all of that. I was designing many things early on.

Where or who do you get your inspiration from?

I do not dress for weather I dress for mood. I am inspired by everything I either am experiencing in my life or am involved with in my journey.
What is one thing you love about being an Image Consultant? I love self-love and self- growth. The ultimate goal of what I do and why I do, it is for women, men, people, and humans, to achieve everyday confidence. To feel the utmost comfortable in their own skin while displaying that through style or appearance.

“I AM INSPIRED BY EVERYTHING.“

DSC_0935By being a stylist, do you feel like you inspire people to get more creative with their choices in their clothing pieces?

Yes! I love the feedback or compliments that I have been given or heard from other people. It makes me feel like I am really doing something right in not just the social and fashion community but in our own culture.

Name your top 5 artists you listen to on a daily basis.

Rihanna, Majid Jordan, Sade, Hall & Oates, Alanis Morrisette

Which major brand do you see yourself working with in the next few years? & Why?

I have so many in mind, gahhhh! In addition, I am very spiritual and superstitious so I do not want to jinx anything.

With someone who has incredible taste in clothes, I think everybody is wondering whom your top 5 fashion icons is.

AHH! I appreciate you! BLAH, okay my top 5, top 5 (drake voice) would be…FOR FUCKING SURE: Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Yoon Ambush, Naomi Smalls, And anyone who has ever stepped foot in Studio 54.

“YOU CAN BE FASHION, EVERYONE CAN BE FASHION OR HAVE FASHION, BUT NOT EVERYONE CAN SELL OUR SERVE STYLE.“

DSC_0922What is your opinion on wearing popular brand name vs non brand names?

You know, we are in a time where everything is so easy to be mistaken as a fake or made into a replica. I am not one to care really. I will wear a $2 t-shirt, with $1600, Chanel boots and a plastic bag and chain I have made into a purse. Fashion allows you to feel a part of something, style creates “this is who I am” You can be fashion, everyone can be fashion or have fashion, but not everyone can sell or serve style.

With Appt Only Showroom becoming one of the most well-known destination to shop at in Wynwood, so far what is one memorable moment you’ve experienced while working there?

The entire experience has been surreal to me, to be honest. The many faces, brands and opportunities I’ve been able to tackle in such a short time gives me an adrenaline rush for future projects I have in mind and in the works. BUT, it was pretty amazing to shop with 2 Chainz himself alongside his stylist & also plastering me all over his snapchat on how to wear his brand that I was repping!

DSC_0808Any more moves for Alexis Nicole this year?

Always on the move…gotta reach higher places and keep people on their toes.

Any advice you would give to anyone who is trying to change up his or her style or experimenting with different looks?

BE DARING, TAKE A RISK, START THE TREND, DONT BE THE TREND!
